Redact
Remove sensitive text and images from a PDF for good, not just cover them. Mark what to remove, apply, download. Done in your browser: your file never leaves your device.
Drop a PDF here
It opens in the redaction editor. You can also drag one from Documents.
How to redact a PDF
- 1
Open your PDF
Drop it here or choose it from your device. If it has a password, the editor asks for it.
- 2
Mark what to remove
Draw boxes over text, images or areas, or select text to mark it. Review the marks before you apply them.
- 3
Apply and download
Apply the redactions: what is under them is removed from the PDF, not just covered. Download the result.
Questions
Is the text really removed, or just covered?
Removed. When you apply the redactions, the text, images and drawings under each mark are taken out of the PDF itself, then the area is filled. Copying, searching or editing the file cannot bring them back.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The redaction runs in your browser with our own PDF engine. Your PDF never leaves your device.
Can I redact a password-protected PDF?
Yes. Enter its password when asked. If its author does not allow changes, the editor asks for its permissions (owner) password too. The redacted file keeps the same passwords and permissions.
Can I keep a page’s background under a redaction?
Yes: with Keep background on (the default), only the text under a mark is removed and the page’s background stays; turn it off to remove images and drawings under the mark too.
Can I redact several PDFs at once?
One PDF at a time: each needs its own marks. Open the next one when the first is downloaded.
