Decrypt PDF

Take the password and restrictions off PDFs you can open: printing, copying and editing allowed again. Done in your browser: your files and passwords never leave your device.

Drop PDFs here

Each PDF is saved without its password and restrictions. One PDF or many: each gets the same settings. You can also drag one from Documents.

How to decrypt a PDF

  1. 1

    Add your PDFs

Drop one protected PDF or many onto the page, or choose them from your device. They are read here, in your browser.

  2. 2

    Enter the password

Type the password that opens each file, or one password for all of them. A PDF that only restricts printing or copying needs none.

  3. 3

    Decrypt and download

The password and restrictions are taken off on your device. Download each PDF, or all of them as one ZIP.

Questions

Which password do I need?

The password that opens the PDF, or its permissions password: either one is enough here. A PDF that opens without a password but restricts printing, copying or editing is unlocked without one.

Can it remove a password I do not know?

No. pdf.place does not guess or crack passwords: the PDF is opened with the password you give, then saved without protection.

Can I unlock many PDFs at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like, enter each one’s password or one password for all, and download them all as one ZIP.

Are my files or passwords uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser with our own PDF engine. Your PDFs and passwords never leave your device.

Does it change anything else in the PDF?

No. The pages, text, images, forms and bookmarks stay as they were; only the encryption, its passwords and its restrictions are taken off.

May I remove the protection from any PDF?

Only from files you have the right to: your own, or ones whose owner gave you the password for that.
